Who’s at Mardi Gras!

February 21, 2012

BJ Bounds

Yesterday was a national bank holiday but today is MARDI GRAS!  So who extended their holiday to have some fun and get some beads?

I’ve “worked” Mardi Gras in Galveston but I’ve never experience the total Mardi Gras atmosphere of New Orleans.

I also have not seen New Orleans since Katrina but I can still picture the old buildings with the balconies overlooking Bourbon St.  That’s where I’d like to be—in the middle of things, and yet away from some of the craziness.

New Orleans itself has such an interesting history and culture that almost anything done there is going to be an extravaganza.  A couple of years ago I wrote about the history of Mardi Gras and the Krewes.  One of the Krewes picks a celebrity each year to serve as king in the parade; last year it was Andy Garcia.  In 2010 it was the Saint’s quarterback.

Not to leave you in the dark this year, here’s the celebrity monarch for this year’s Bacchus Krewe….

Will Ferrell

That’s bound to be entertaining.  We want to hear from you if you are there!

Servers will be down tonight!

February 17, 2012

BJ Bounds

This is just a reminder that our PointCentral and WebCaster servers will be going down tonight for scheduled maintenance.  The outage is expected to begin at 10pm PST (12am CST) and continue through Saturday morning.

We anticipate that everything will be up and running with no issues on Saturday and through the remainder of the holiday weekend.

If you have any questions, you may call our Support Team at 800-342-2599 today (Friday) until 6pm.

We have scheduled staff to take your call on Saturday morning if you encounter issues related to the server maintenance.  From 7am to 9am PST (9-11 CST), you can call 214-252-5690 with server related issues.  After this time, you may leave a voice mail and your call will be returned during the weekend/holiday if the problem is server related.

We will be closed for President’s Day on Monday but will resume normal business hours again on Tuesday, February 21st.

Happy President’s Day!

President’s Day Closing!

February 16, 2012

BJ Bounds

This coming Monday, February 20th, is President’s Day—and we’re going to be closed!  Yes, we actually have a bank holiday off that many other companies do not.

It’s definitely a nice break to have in between New Year’s and Easter.  And observing this “non-traditional” holiday means we can leisurely visit our favorite restaurants at lunchtime and empathize with those that are there rushing through their meals to get back to work.

If you must work on Monday, you can look forward to an easier commute with fewer cars on the road.  If you are off like we are, enjoy your day!

We’ll talk again on Tuesday!

Help with Point: GFE Dates

February 15, 2012

BJ Bounds

Today’s GFE topic deals with the month field.  If your “First Change Can Occur In” field is not populating, there are a couple of things you might be missing in your forms.

  1. Make sure the “Can the interest rate rise?” checkbox checked on the GFE
  2. Make sure the “First Change” field is filled out under the Adjustable Rate Mortgage section of the TIL
  3. You must click the “Calculate” button at the bottom of the GFE window.

That’s the simple fix for today’s topic.  If you’d like help with this or other GFE topics, visit our Knowledge Base.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 2012

BJ Bounds

Today is Valentine’s Day—a day most of either love or hate with equal passion.  When I was in elementary school, I really liked the emphasis on and availability of chocolate and candy, but didn’t like the competition for the most or the best exchanged Valentines.  Decorating my “box” wasn’t my strong suit, either.  Ah, the memories!

Now that I’m grown, I like everything about this holiday, except the changing days.  I wish it was one of those holidays that was celebrated on a particular day of the month instead of an actual date; having it fall on Tuesday makes it harder to make romantic dinner plans.

Although I celebrated the holiday over the past weekend with dinner and a movie, I have an inkling that something will be delivered to the office today.  Not to be outdone, I am also having something delivered to my husband’s office— he has no idea—but I’m sure he’ll appreciate it— it includes meat.

Over the years we’ve given each other strange Valentine’s Day gifts.  When we were dating, he gave me a toaster and received a lot of ribbing about it from his friends—but it’s what I wanted at the time.  And they’ve continued to be either strange or non-traditional.  But it keeps things interesting, so we persist.

I’ll be anxiously watching for the delivery guys today!

What about you?  Do you have any Valentine’s traditions?

Help with Point: PDF files

January 17, 2012

BJ Bounds

PDF may be the greatest invention since sliced bread.  It’s so universal and it certainly comes in handy when sending documents that you do not want edited and that everyone else can easily open.

Most of the time…Every once in awhile, you may receive a PDF file that contains a “portfolio” feature that does not conform to standard PDF specifications or it includes graphics that are not support by Point’s viewer.

If that happens, there is an easy fix that allows you to still store the document in your document management system and view it outside of Point.

Here is what you do:

  1.  Open the document management system
  2. Highlight the PDF file that Point cannot display
  3. Click the View button to view the file using Adobe
  4. OR click the Save As button to save the file on your desktop before opening it with Adobe

For additional details or screen shots on this or other questions, visit the Knowledge Base or Support site at any time of the day or night.

If you’d like to speak to one of our support team members during our normal business hours, please call 800-342-2599.  As a reminder, your account must be on the latest version of Point take advantage of free personal phone/email/chat support.
